Inline Air Filter
Can you give your opinions on upgrading my throttle body from the stock to 62 or 63mm with a 2 inch spacer?
I have a 4.0L inline 6 cylinder with a high flow cat and 2.5″ single exhaust, magnaflow muffler. I also have a high flow air filter with 3″ intake tube.
What are some opinions on upgrading to a 62mm or 63mm throttle body?
I have a bored TB on my 4.0 Wrangler. Not going to make much of a difference by itself. I wouldn’t even look at the spacer. They are a waste of money. One thing you will note with most bored bodies is that you get a high pitched whistle when you hit the throttle.
I wouldn’t spend the dough just for the body itself, but as part of a complete upgrade, why not?
I have the following setup:
4.7l stroker, breathing through a K&N FIPK and a bored TB. Head work, exhaling through banks headers, hi flow cat. Fueled by Accel 24lb hr injectors. Sparked by MSD and an Accel Super coil.
Definitely a different running beast now.
My point is that any upgrade should be considered as part of what your total goal is. If you are getting the TB and planning on other upgrades, then go for it. If you think the TB by itself will give you more power, then I’d pass.
On a passive air system, air intake is driven by the engine (Cam, valve duration and piston stroke) so it will only breathe as much as it needs. opening the tb a little bit doesn’t really make a difference on a stock motor. Probably doesn’t do much on my stroker either.
